Wild River by CLC WT3604 Tackle Tek Nomad Lighted Backpack with Four PT3600 Trays

best boots and wadersI first saw the new line of Wild River Tackle Tek Fishing Bags at the ICAST Show in Orlando earlier this year, and I’ve been patiently waiting for them to hit the market so I could snag one. Like many serious anglers, I like to hit the water early in the morning and stay on the water ’til dark, with the LED lights incorporated in the Wild River bags, I can hit those prime fishing hours and be able to work efficiently in the low-light/no-light conditions tying on lures and baiting hooks. This backpack is great for when I’m going to be riding an ATV to a pond or walking in and need my hands free to cross fences, etc. Very smart design and good use of space and pockets. I also like the pliers holder with the retractable lanyard for my clippers!

Ready 2 Fish Soft Sided Tackle Bag

best boots and waders
I bought this bag in early 2010. I really prefer using a soft sided tackle bag after trying a few different things over the years including hard tackle boxes and boxes with stacks of trays/boxes inside, and this is the first new one I have bought in a long time. My last bag was an old soft duffle bag I had re-purposed, this bag is actually designed for fishing. I looked at many bags at Amazon.com, auction sites and fishing gear sites before choosing this bag. For one thing, tackle boxes and bags have gotten very expensive, so price was one of my considerations in choosing a new tackle bag for fishing. For the price this bag was really affordable compared to other bags I looked at. Once I chose which bag I wanted, the best price was here at Amazon, especially with shipping.

I fish with bait, lures, flies, and the fish I seek out are trout, bass, perch, kokanee salmon, catfish and bluegill. I wanted a tackle bag that would hold everything but my rod, net, and lunch. But with this bag I can still strap the net to the outside of the bag, and slip my lunch and thermos inside so it exceeded my expectations, without carrying a big monster bag. If I break my rod down, I can strap it to the top as well. I also looked at the type of bags that come with nice big Plano style tackle boxes for lures inside, but the boxes always fill the entire bag and they are too big for me. I already have plenty of boxes, prefer to handpick my boxes, and I use a variety of smaller Plano type boxes and fly boxes. Each box is dedicated to different varieties of fish or types of fishing that I can switch out before a trip as I need them. Another reason I do not like to use big tackle boxes, is that just one careless bump or kick from me when its open and my gear is dumped everywhere. I planned to buy a bag in a reasonable size because if I have a bigger one, it is too tempting for me to load too much stuff and then its gets heavy. I fish from both the shore and boat, so I needed a bag I could carry back and forth. I found this one to be very comfortable when its full in size and shape, and the padded strap and handles helps.

It has a padded shoulder strap, and it still leaves my hands free. It also has 2 short handles for carrying by hand. This one is just the right size for me. It has a waterproof nylon interior, and a hard interior bottom to maintain the shape of the bag. The bag is waterproof, whichj does not mean you can fill it with water, it means if you splash it the inside stays dry and the water does not harm the bag. It seems to resist stains and tears very well. It still looks new after heavy use this year.

FEATURES: It came with a bunch of adjustable velcro dividers for the main interior compartment that allow you to lay out the inside any way you like. I used about half of them. It has a clear pocket on the interior lid for papers and electronic devices. The exterior of the same lid has a cable net to hold your coat, gloves, hat, rod tube or a net. The strap D-rings have room to clip items on. It has nice exterior pockets all the way around, the back side is one long mesh pocket that runs down the whole bag. It has a tool pocket one the front that has 3 elastic mini compartments inside, a big area, and another zippered area, exterior bandolier type things, carabiner clips, and a small zippered pocket for your license. One side has a mesh water bottle pocket on the side with a strap, D-rings and a pocket with a velcro lid. The opposite side has a large pocket, that for me fits 8 bottles of bait. It has a comfortable padded shoulder strap that clips onto D-rings, it and the dividers were bundled inside and had to be installed, which takes a few seconds at most.

SIZE: Measures 16 inches long x 12.7 inches wide x 16 x 11.2 inches tall. Very light, it weighs just under 1 pound.

PICS: I added 4 pictures of my bag to this page in addition to the 1 picture Amazon has, so you can see the top and the back of the bag, interior, pockets, the handles and padded shoulder strap. I almost didn’t buy this bag for the previous lack of good pictures here. I posted my pics with the bag empty and also with my gear loaded in it, it was hard to get a realistic feel for the size and capacity with the sellers pic so I hope this helps you figure out if this is the type of bag for you or not.

Everybody has different tastes in fishing gear, this one works great for me and was affordable compared to similar bags.

UPDATE: December 2011. It is now two fishing seasons that I have used this bag. It has proved to be very durable, no problems with zippers, straps, or pockets, no tears. The material still looks new. It has proved very useful, and I am still impressed and glad I bought this bag.

Plano Tackle Box with Chill Bag System

best boots and wadersAlthough I was opposed to a hard case at first, I think this hard/soft tackle box was a great buy, especially at the price. My favorite thing about this box is the versatility (although the cup holders on top are a nice touch).

The inside is divided into 3 equal sized sections capable of holding 2 Plano 3000 series boxes. One thing that I really like is that I can choose how I set this up. As shipped, one is empty, one has a cooler, and one has 2 tackle boxes. If I want to bring more tackle, I can put 6 boxes in and ditch the cooler. If I’m going to be dock/bridge/pier fishing, I’ll use 4 boxes and a cooler. If I have an extra reel or too much big stuff to fit in all of the outside pockets (or just want something to be protected), I can leave one or two sections open, and only bring 2 tackle boxes.

Also, all of my fishing buddies have soft cases for tackle, and after several years the zippers no longer work (which is to be expected, since we do almost all saltwater fishing). Anyway, I don’t mind pockets that stay open permanently, but I like to have at least one section that stays closed and protected for my tackle. I haven’t done a lot of fishing with this box yet, but so far it holds all my tackle and fit/finish seems to be nice.

I would definitely recommend this box to anyone — whether you need storage space for lots of tackle while on the boat, or if you just want to bring a 6-pack out to the dock and keep one hand free to carry your rods.

Plano Molding Company 3600 SoftSider X Tackle Bag

best boot and waders
For the money you can’t find a better value in organizing your fishing tackle. My use is for inshore saltwater fishing stuff and bass fishing. I send it to where I’m headed so I have “my stuff” with me and just leave it in the trunk when I’m local. Hands down these people know what is needed to keep all your stuff in a well made handy carry all. Enough room for one day or a few days on the water. The one thing I did do is swap out one of the narrow boxes for a 3640 waterproof 10.24×7.25×1.25 boxes. I use the waterproof box as my stinky artificial worm container. It fits tight if I have all 3 large boxes in the bag but normally I only have two of them. I’m not a professional so how many plugs and lures do you really need in a day? Be real, especially since we fish with mostly live bait.
